Uber and Avride Launch Robotaxi Rides in Dallas

The service begins with supervised Hyundai Ioniq 5 AVs matched to certain trip types at standard fares in a limited Dallas zone.

Overview

  • Riders requesting UberX, Uber Comfort or Uber Comfort Electric may be matched with an Avride robotaxi at no additional cost within a nine‑square‑mile area covering Downtown, Uptown, Turtle Creek and Deep Ellum.
  • When matched, the app notifies the rider, who can accept or switch to a human‑driven car, and riders can unlock the vehicle and start the trip using the Uber app.
  • A human safety operator rides in the front seat at launch with plans to transition to fully driverless operations, though no timetable has been announced.
  • Avride will initially manage its Dallas fleet as Uber provides rider support, with Uber set to assume day‑to‑day operations later and the fleet expected to scale to hundreds of vehicles over the next few years.
  • The rollout is part of Uber’s broader AV strategy that includes partnerships with Waymo and WeRide, a goal of autonomous service in at least 10 cities by the end of 2026, and a $375 million investment package with Avride’s parent Nebius.
