QS says institutional stability in funding plus governance is key to turning educational leadership into measurable research impact.

Overview

  • The 2026 QS Sustainability Ranking expands to roughly 2,000 universities across 106 countries, with Lund ranked first, Toronto second and UCL third.
  • Argentina records a modest overall gain as 36% of its universities improved, 29% declined and three entered for the first time, producing a net advance of +7%.
  • New Argentine entrants are the National University of Rosario (UNR), National Technological University (UTN) and National University of the Northeast (UNNE), extending the country’s geographic footprint in the table.
  • Other movements include the National University of the Litoral (UNL) up to 910 and the National University of Cuyo (Uncuyo) to 921, while La Plata, Córdoba, Comahue and Sur fell.
  • QS notes strong national results in environmental education and governance — UBA ranks 62 globally in environmental education and scores highly in governance (88.1) and knowledge exchange (90.8) — with weaker performance in environmental research and equality/health.
