United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain reaffirmed plans to lead a general strike in the US on 1 May 2028, coinciding with International Solidarity Day or May Day.
The UAW has rescheduled the expiration of their union contracts with the US’s big three automakers to align on this day.
Fain criticized Donald Trump and GOP talking points about gender and immigration, but has not yet endorsed Joe Biden.
Fain has emerged as a potent political figure, courted by both Trump and Biden.
The UAW has yet to formally endorse Biden, who was the first president to walk on a picket line with striking workers in September 2023.
