UAE Shifts National Day Break to Dec. 1–2, Confirming Four-Day Weekend

The adjustment uses a new holiday-transfer mechanism to give residents a continuous long weekend.

Overview

  • Federal HR and labour authorities set Monday and Tuesday, December 1–2, 2025, as paid holidays for public and private sector employees, with work resuming on Wednesday, December 3.
  • The Ministry of Education aligned schools with the same dates, with classes restarting on December 3 across the country.
  • The dates were moved from the previously slated December 2–3 under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, marking the first use of the transfer option for Eid Al Etihad.
  • Most residents will effectively have a four-day break from Saturday, November 29, to Tuesday, December 2, while Sharjah’s public sector and students get five days off from Friday, November 28.
  • Dubai’s government confirmed the holiday for its employees and exempted entities that provide essential public services or operate rotating shifts, allowing them to set hours based on operational needs.
