UAE Rolls Out New Visit Visas and Residency Rules in ICP Overhaul

The package balances talent attraction with humanitarian protections through licensed hosts, solvency checks, and defined income thresholds.

Overview

  • Four specialized visit visas were introduced for AI specialists, entertainment participants, event attendees, and cruise or leisure boat travelers, typically requiring a licensed host or sponsor.
  • A one-year humanitarian residence permit is available without a sponsor for people from countries affected by war or disasters, with cancellation if the holder leaves the UAE.
  • Foreign widows and divorcees can obtain a one-year residency within six months of death or divorce if they were in the UAE and previously sponsored by the husband, with renewal subject to conditions.
  • Residents who host visitors must meet minimum monthly income thresholds of AED 4,000 for first-degree relatives, AED 8,000 for second- or third-degree relatives, and AED 15,000 for friends.
  • Business exploration visas now require proof of financial solvency or ongoing practice through an existing company abroad, and truck-driver visas require a licensed freight sponsor plus health insurance and financial guarantees.
