UAE Records 9.8°C in Al Ain as Winter Sets In

The weather agency expects a further dip with pockets of light rain plus dusty spells early this week.

Overview

  • The National Centre of Meteorology confirmed a 9.8°C reading at Raknah in Al Ain at 6:30am on Sunday, the lowest temperature in the country that day.
  • The drop reflects the UAE’s transition into its November–March winter, when daytime temperatures typically range from 15°C to 25°C in most areas.
  • In a five-day outlook, the NCM forecast cooler conditions with a chance of light rainfall in some places, dusty weather in parts of the country, and winds reaching up to 35kph on Monday and Tuesday.
  • Raknah is a known cold spot, while recent benchmarks include 1.9°C at Jebel Jais on January 4 this year and the national record of −5.7°C at Jebel Jais on February 3, 2017.
  • Dusty conditions recently degraded air quality across the UAE, with a storm originating in Iran identified by a local researcher as a key driver.
