Overview
- UAE and United Nations officials confirmed late Wednesday that Operation Confrontation Ghost, a three-month campaign from July 1 to September 30, reported 123.7 million fraud attempts thwarted and more than $39 billion in illicit funds exposed.
- The campaign involved law enforcement from about 30 countries, Interpol, the Global Anti-Scam Alliance and 13 private-sector partners who exchanged over 9,000 pieces of intelligence to map and disrupt scam networks.
- Authorities said the operation led to roughly 960 arrests, identified about 3,500 additional suspects, uncovered some 15,500 victims, froze 4,126 bank accounts and shut down 570 social accounts used to manipulate victims.
- Tactics combined real-time intelligence sharing, bank-account freezes, platform takedowns and targeted raids to disrupt AI-enabled fraud, digital financial laundering and sextortion schemes that exploit social platforms and tokenised payment rails.
- Officials and the UNODC framed the results as a model for sustained international cooperation and signalled ongoing focus on public–private measures to trace illicit flows and counter emerging technology-enabled scams.
