UABC Mexicali Boosts Security After Reported Abduction Attempt as Students March

The university has dismissed a professor following harassment allegations under its gender-violence protocol.

Overview

  • Municipal police said a complaint over the reported attempted abduction was filed with the state prosecutor, which is now leading the investigation.
  • UABC and city authorities agreed to stepped-up patrols, including two motorcycle units operating from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on routes such as José Antonio Torres and Río Mocorito, and a review to intensify lighting around campus.
  • Officials outlined plans to place a neighborhood patrol inside the campus and to provide prevention and security training through a designated prosecutor liaison.
  • Student groups from several faculties marched to the vice-rectorate demanding verifiable, long-term safety measures and stronger enforcement of existing protocols.
  • UABC removed Human Sciences professor Luis Alfredo “N” after multiple allegations of harassment and an improper sex-affective relationship that the university’s protocol classifies as gender-based violence.
