U2 Return to Mount Temple for 50th‑Anniversary Surprise Gig

The short schoolyard set coincided with the band’s album rollout, marking their first full performance together since May and linking the anniversary to new music.

Overview

  • U2 gave a surprise seven‑song performance at Mount Temple Comprehensive School on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, playing for students and staff in the schoolyard.
  • The set included I Will Follow, Vertigo, Beautiful Day, Out of Control and closed with With or Without You, and the band debuted the new single “Silencio” live.
  • About 1,000 students watched the gig and the band were joined on stage by young musicians from the Music Generation for One education programme.
  • The appearance followed the Sept. 24 announcement of Carnaval De Luz, U2’s first album of new material in nine years due on Nov. 13, 2026.
  • Bono paid tribute onstage to the late Fr Jack Heaslip, and reports note this was the first time all four original members played together since filming the “Street of Dreams” video in Mexico City in May.
