Overview

  • The 2025 U-Ranking by the BBVA Foundation and Ivie confirms public universities lead in research and innovation, with no private campus among the top research performers.
  • Private institutions occupy six of the eight highest teaching productivity positions and 17 of the top 25 spots for graduate job placement efficiency.
  • Barcelona’s Universitat Pompeu Fabra tops the productivity ranking while Madrid’s Complutense University leads in total volume of graduates, publications and employment outcomes.
  • Eight universities—including the University of Barcelona, the University of Valencia, the Autonomous Universities of Madrid and Barcelona, the Polytechnic Universities of Madrid, Catalonia and Valencia, and the University of Santiago de Compostela—rank among the top 15 for both productivity and volume, accounting for 26% of the system’s total output.
