Overview
- On Oct. 11, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Typhoon No. 23 was nearly stationary south of Amami, with alerts for strong winds, very high waves, and heavy rain across Amami and southern Kyushu.
- JMA guidance projects an eastward turn on Oct. 12 with an east‑northeast track along waters south of Japan as the storm intensifies.
- Forecasts indicate a close approach to the Izu Islands around Oct. 12–13, with strict warnings for violent winds and a risk of trucks being overturned on Oct. 12.
- Moist, warm inflow is expected to leave the atmosphere very unstable over Okinawa, Amami, and southern Kyushu, heightening the dangers of landslides, river rises, and flooding.
- Expected wave heights include 6 meters for Amami on Oct. 11 and 5 meters around Okinawa and southern Kyushu, following 4–5 meters reported on Oct. 10.
