Overview
- Typhoon Dujuan approached eastern Japan on Monday, passing close to the Izu Islands and moving toward the Boso Peninsula east of Tokyo with very heavy localized rain already recorded.
- The Japan Meteorological Agency issued high-alert warnings and Level 4 landslide advisories as forecasts called for up to several hundred millimetres of rain in 24-hour windows and the risk of rapid intensification in narrow linear rainbands.
- Rail services were disrupted as East Japan Railway Company announced partial and full-day suspensions on lines serving Chiba, Ibaraki and western Tokyo and several highways were closed during the holiday period.
- Organisers cancelled or postponed large gatherings to reduce risk, including the Tokyo Game Show shortening its run and the Asian Games postponing the equestrian eventing competition.
- This is the 25th named storm of the season and officials say the Silver Week holiday raises exposure for travel and crowds, so residents should expect continuing transport impacts and heightened flood and landslide danger over the next 24 to 48 hours.
