TxDOT Shuts I-30 in Downtown Dallas and I-10 at Loop 1604 for Weekend Work

TxDOT says the shutdowns enable concentrated work on multi-year rebuilds running into 2028 and beyond.

Overview

  • Eastbound and westbound I-30 through the Downtown Canyon close from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday between I-35E and I-45, with major delays expected and Woodall Rodgers Freeway signed as the primary detour.
  • All lanes of I-10 at the Loop 1604 interchange close from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, with frontage roads and rightmost lanes at the interchange also closed and law enforcement directing traffic.
  • TxDOT indicates another full I-30 weekend shutdown is expected later in January, with specific dates still to be announced.
  • The I-30 Canyon Project includes long-term closures and lane reductions on downtown Dallas streets and bridges such as Cesar Chavez, Cadiz, Akard, and Good Latimer, with durations stretching into 2027–2028.
  • A separate Hurst project closes all westbound lanes of SH 121/183 at Norwood Drive starting 8 p.m. Friday for pedestrian-bridge demolition, routing traffic into westbound TEXpress lanes at no cost.
