Two Young Men Found Dead After Being Swept From Pallikkara Beach

Recovered several kilometres south of the beach by a coordinated multi-agency search, the bodies are now at a government hospital for post-mortem.

Two 20-year-old men, identified as Appu T Abraham and Ankith, entered the sea at Pallikkara Beach near Bekal and were swept away by strong currents.
Their friends alerted lifeguards immediately and a search was launched that involved coastal police, the Indian Coast Guard and the fisheries department.
Rescue teams recovered Abraham’s body near the Chittari estuary about six kilometres south of the disappearance point and found Ankith’s body later further south near Kanhangad.
The bodies were taken to a government hospital for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to the relatives after formalities are completed.
The distance between the missing location and the recovery sites points to powerful local currents, a factor families and authorities may cite in any follow-up safety or public warning measures.
