Two Young Drivers Hurt in Icy Road Crashes in Dachau District

Investigators cite driving too fast for black ice as the cause.

Overview

  • Local police confirmed two single-vehicle crashes on Monday that left an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old with minor injuries.
  • At about 11:00 in Bergkirchen toward Eschenried, a 20-year-old left the road, struck a power and telecom mast, then hit a tree, and was freed by firefighters before transport to Dachau hospital.
  • Police estimated a total loss of about €5,000 for the Bergkirchen vehicle, and the damaged mast did not disrupt phone or internet service.
  • Around 15:00 between Ottelsburg and Thalhof in Hilgertshausen-Tandern, an 18-year-old slid off in a left-hand curve into a ditch and was treated on site by emergency services.
  • Authorities said both drivers likely underestimated winter conditions and were driving too fast for the ice.
