Two WA Police Crashes 20 Minutes Apart Leave Officer, Elderly Motorist Seriously Injured

Formal investigations are underway with appeals for witnesses.

  • Just before 11am a marked highway patrol car collided with a semi-trailer on Great Eastern Highway near Northam, seriously injuring one officer and leaving a second with minor injuries.
  • About 20 minutes later in Subiaco, police responding under emergency conditions to a firearms report struck an 80-year-old woman’s car as she turned into a driveway, hospitalising her with serious injuries.
  • The seriously injured officer was airlifted to Perth for treatment, while the truck driver and the involved Subiaco officers were unhurt.
  • WA Police say Major Crash and internal oversight are reviewing both collisions, with no pursuit believed to have been underway near Northam and the Subiaco response speed to be examined.
  • A 5 km section of Great Eastern Highway remains closed near Northam, a 23-year-old woman is assisting inquiries related to the firearms report, and welfare support has been promised to those affected.
