Overview

• Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded just before midnight to a commercial property on SW 125th Court and upgraded the incident after encountering heavy smoke at multiple bay doors.
• Investigators determined that lithium‑ion batteries stored inside the Tualatin building started the fire, and no occupants or injuries were reported.
• Crews ventilated the Tualatin structure to clear smoke, confirmed the building was empty, and then moved to extinguish the seat of the blaze.
• Around 6:30 a.m., Salem firefighters arrived at a home on the 4400 block of Matthews Loop South, found two people trapped, and upgraded to a two‑alarm response; one person died and another was hospitalized.
• The Salem fire was brought under control within about 20 minutes of arrival, and Salem Police and the Salem Fire Department are jointly investigating its cause.
