Two Teens Killed in SR 33 Crash Near Groveland After Illegal Pass

FHP says a no-passing attempt put the 16-year-old's sedan into the path of an SUV.

  • Troopers say the collision happened around 6:05 p.m. Saturday on State Road 33 near Groveland Farms Road in Lake County.
  • The southbound sedan entered the northbound lane to pass in a no-passing zone, swerved back, then lost control, rotated and reentered the oncoming lane.
  • The SUV struck the sedan, which overturned, and both teens in the car—a 16-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger—were pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The SUV’s driver and three passengers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the 6-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries while the others had minor injuries.
  • Florida Highway Patrol says the crash remains under investigation.
