Two Teens Killed in New Year’s Day Crash in East Yorkshire
A 17-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a head-on collision left two dead and several injured.
- The crash occurred at 1:20 a.m. on New Year’s Day on Staithes Road near Preston, East Yorkshire, involving a grey Volkswagen Golf and a black Vauxhall Grandland.
- William Herbert, 16, died at the scene, while Olly Mitchell, 18, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital shortly after.
- Two other passengers in the Golf, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, remain hospitalized with critical and serious injuries, respectively.
- The Vauxhall Grandland’s driver, a 34-year-old woman, sustained a serious arm injury, while a 62-year-old male passenger and two others suffered less severe injuries.
- The 17-year-old Golf driver was arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail as investigations continue.
