Two Teenagers Arrested After Reported Disorder in Bolton Town Centre as Police Issue Dispersal Order

Officers responded to reports of assaults by a group of about 60 near Market Place, invoking Section 34 powers to safeguard the public.

  • GMP said the dispersal zone covered the town centre until 2am Sunday and allowed officers to direct suspected troublemakers to leave or face arrest.
  • Riot-trained Tactical Aid Unit officers, several police vehicles and paramedics were seen near the McDonald’s on Knowsley Street around 7pm.
  • Two 16-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of ABH and of a racially aggravated public order offence and violent disorder, and both remain under investigation.
  • Police said the group dispersed after the order was imposed and no further arrests were made.
  • Inspector Nick White stated behaviour that puts the public at risk will not be tolerated and advised residents they would see increased police visibility.
