Two Suspects Believed to Be in U.S. Illegally Arrested in Fatal Grapevine Lake Jet Ski Hit-and-Run

Authorities arrested Gonzalez and her companion at a Dallas home after a multi-agency operation tracked them down following the crash.

Overview

  • On May 25 near Oak Grove Park at Grapevine Lake, a jet ski driven by Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez collided with 18-year-old Ava Moore’s kayak.
  • Moore, who had just graduated from the Air Force Academy Preparatory School, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.
  • Gonzalez and a male companion fled the scene, with the man crashing into two vehicles during their escape before both suspects ran on foot.
  • Early Tuesday, Texas Game Wardens, Grapevine and Dallas police, Homeland Security and ICE used drones as part of a coordinated operation to locate and detain the pair at a Dallas residence.
  • Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said both suspects are believed to be in the country illegally and face charges in the fatal hit-and-run.
