Two Severe Road Crashes in Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate Leave Several Badly Hurt, Roads Closed

Police have launched inquiries with a public witness appeal after extensive rescue work.

Overview

  • On Kreisstraße 70 between Braubach and Hinterwald around 21:50, a BMW crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Mercedes head-on, according to police.
  • The BMW was torn into two parts and partially caught fire, and its driver and passenger sustained severe, partly life-threatening injuries before being taken to nearby hospitals.
  • K70 remained shut for several hours for rescue and recovery, and investigators asked witnesses to contact the Lahnstein police.
  • At 07:45 on the B2 near Monheim, a 61-year-old turning onto the highway apparently overlooked a priority vehicle and collided violently with a 49-year-old’s car.
  • Firefighters extricated the trapped 61-year-old who was airlifted to Ingolstadt with serious injuries, the other driver suffered minor injuries, both cars were total losses, and the section reopened after about 90 minutes with traffic diverted via Rehau, Weilheim and Otting.
