Overview
- A pedestrian walking on eastbound MO 78 west of 7 Highway in Independence was struck by a Ford Fusion around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday and later died at a hospital.
- Independence Police say the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating, with the victim’s identity pending next-of-kin notification.
- On Tuesday around 9:30 a.m., a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder traveling north on I-29 about three miles north of Craig went off the west side of the road and overturned.
- The SUV’s driver, a 45-year-old man from Independence and the vehicle’s sole occupant, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
- Officials have not announced any charges as both the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Independence Police continue their investigations.
