Two Separate Morning Crashes in Germany Leave Two Women Seriously Injured

Firefighters used heavy tools to free both drivers during rescues under active police investigation.

Overview

  • On the A39 near Winsen (Luhe), a 28-year-old in an Audi left the roadway around 9:25 a.m., struck guardrails multiple times, and was extricated after about an hour with serious injuries.
  • The A39 was fully closed for recovery, causing roughly three kilometres of congestion, and later reopened with residual delays reported.
  • Around 5:30 a.m. in Pirna-Copitz, a truck and a VW Passat collided at the S167 junction to the S177 toward the A17, seriously injuring the 43-year-old car driver.
  • Responders cut the B-pillar and removed a rear door to free the Pirna driver, and the junction reopened shortly after 9:00 a.m. following multi-hour closure and vehicle recovery by ADAC with a lifting system for the truck.
  • Police in Dresden have opened a formal investigation into the Pirna crash, the traffic signal at the intersection was out of service, and the cause of the A39 crash remains unconfirmed; damage in Pirna is estimated at at least €15,000.
