Overview
- A collision between two semis happened early Tuesday on I-80/94 eastbound at the Burr Street exit in Gary when a moving truck sideswiped a parked Amazon delivery truck.
- The moving driver, identified as 33-year-old Garbiel Corral of Chicago, was ejected and taken to Northlake Hospital in serious condition, while the parked truck’s driver, 31-year-old Ahmed Taher Hussein Al Subari of Dearborn, was not hurt.
- Video and police reports showed heavy damage to at least one cab and an Amazon truck losing part of its load, which scattered packages across the expressway and required an extended cleanup.
- Indiana State Police closed eastbound lanes for about eight hours to process the scene and clear debris with assistance from WAFFCO Towing, and the roadway has since reopened.
- The Indiana State Police say the investigation is active, no charges have been filed yet, and officials and drivers should expect lengthy scene work in large-truck crashes and follow updates on the hospitalized driver and cause findings.
