Overview

  • At around 7:50 p.m. Saturday, a 44-year-old man was shoved from behind onto the tracks of the 1 train at the 50th Street and 7th Avenue station, suffering head and knee injuries; he climbed back onto the platform before a train arrived.
  • Just over an hour later at the East Village’s 2nd Avenue F-train station, a 44-year-old rider was stabbed in the neck and armpit during a confrontation; he managed to reach street level and secure help.
  • Both victims were rushed to hospitals—one in stable condition at an undisclosed facility and the other to Bellevue Hospital—and are expected to survive.
  • No arrests have been made; the NYPD is intensifying its search for both assailants, urging witnesses to come forward.
  • These attacks follow over two years of similar unprovoked violence that has spurred pilot platform barrier programs, expanded surveillance tests and debates over broader safety upgrades.
