Overview

• During a Thursday afternoon dispute at Emilio Olmos 290, a man doused a responding officer with alcohol and set him on fire, causing burns to the face, right forearm and hand.
• A second officer extinguished the flames and suffered minor burns, and the attacker—who was also burned—was detained as police seized the flammable liquid and a hammer.
• The injured officer was transported to the Instituto del Quemado for specialized treatment.
• Hours later, a few blocks away, a woman fleeing an alleged clothing theft struck a motorcycle officer at Boulevard Chacabuco and San Jerónimo, then continued before being stopped at Avenida Olmos and Maipú.
• Judicial inquiries are underway into the arson assault and the alleged shoplifting, including efforts to establish the Toyota Corolla’s ownership.
