Two Philadelphia Hit-and-Run Crashes Kill Pedestrian, Bicyclist as Police Investigate

Investigators have key vehicle leads in both collisions.

Overview

  • A 54-year-old bicyclist was struck around 3:44–3:45 a.m. Saturday at North 56th Street and Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia and was pronounced dead at 4:47 a.m. at Lankenau Hospital.
  • Police say the striking vehicle in the bicyclist case was a red SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, which appeared to swerve after impact and continued westbound without stopping.
  • In a separate incident around 8:56 p.m. Friday, a 63-year-old woman crossing at Whitaker Avenue and Wyoming Avenue was hit by a northbound car and later pronounced at Temple University Hospital.
  • The car in the pedestrian case, identified as a white 2012 Infiniti M37, was found unoccupied near A and Loudon streets and will be seized for further investigation.
  • The Philadelphia Police Crash Investigation Division is handling both cases, victims’ names have not been released, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact police.
