Two Peruvians From Loreto Killed After Joining Ukraine’s Forces

Relatives are asking Peru’s Foreign Ministry to repatriate the bodies, saying they have received no official response.

Overview

  • Families identified the dead as Frank Luis Pinedo del Campo, 33, a former Peruvian Navy member, and Jair Ayachi Sánchez, 21–22, who left the Air Force before traveling.
  • Relatives and brigade contacts report both men were killed by explosives launched from drones, with fighting described in the Zaporizhzhia area or nearby Russian-held territory.
  • Pinedo and Ayachi left Peru in late September after reported economic offers to join foreign units supporting Ukraine, traveling with roughly two dozen ex-Peruvian service members.
  • Parents in Iquitos have publicly appealed to the Cancillería and to Loreto’s regional governor, Jorge René Chávez, for help returning the remains for burial.
  • Local media note no official statement yet from Peruvian authorities, and relatives say other Peruvians may also have died, a claim not independently confirmed.
