Two Packed Cayucos Rescued Off Canary Islands, Including 248 Arrivals at El Hierro

  • Salvamar Diphda guided a cayuco to La Restinga after locating it near El Hierro with 248 people aboard following a seven-day voyage from Gambia.
  • The El Hierro group included 63 women and 32 minors, among them seven babies, and received portside care with no hospital transfers reported.
  • Guardia Civil units and other emergency services supported the assisted entry and disembarkation at the harbor.
  • In a separate operation, 84 people were rescued six kilometers south of Tenerife and landed at Granadilla, with six taken to hospitals.
  • Reception and medical teams from the Canary emergency service, Red Cross and primary care operated at both piers to provide immediate assistance.
