Two Overnight Shootings in Chicago Leave 11 Wounded Over Labor Day Weekend

Police describe drive-by gunfire at both scenes, with no suspects in custody.

Overview

  • Chicago police say seven people were shot around 11 p.m. Saturday on the 3500 block of South State Street when suspects in an unknown car opened fire into a crowd.
  • Victims from the State Street attack were taken to Northwestern Memorial, the University of Chicago Medical Center, Stroger Hospital, and St. Bernard Hospital, and were listed in good condition.
  • A second attack occurred a couple of hours later on the 2700 block of West Haddon Avenue in West Town, where multiple unknown male offenders drove past and opened fire on people standing outside.
  • Four people were wounded in the West Town shooting, including victims with chest and neck wounds, and were reported in good condition at Norwegian Hospital, St. Mary Hospital, and Stroger Hospital.
  • Between 7 p.m. Saturday and early Sunday, police reported about two dozen people shot citywide with at least one fatality.
