Two MRPL Operators Killed by Hydrogen Sulfide Leak During Tank Inspection
Following containment of the hydrogen sulfide leak, MRPL has set up a high-level inquiry committee to identify accountability
Overview
- The leak occurred around 8 am on July 12 at storage tank FB7029 in the Oil Movement Section during a routine level check
- Seasoned field operators Deep Chandra Bhartiya and Bijil Prasad collapsed atop the tank and were later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital
- Colleague Vinayak Myageri, who attempted to rescue them, was hospitalized in stable condition after inhaling the gas
- MRPL’s fire and safety team sealed the leak and declared the area safe by afternoon
- Mangaluru City Police will register a case based on statements from the victims’ families as the company’s inquiry committee continues its probe
