Two More PLA Cadres Held Over Manipur Convoy Ambush, One Nabbed in Guwahati

Police say fresh arrests broaden the dragnet after the convoy ambush.

Overview

  • Manipur Police said two PLA members identified as Thongram Sadananda Singh, 18, and self-styled Lt Corpl Chongtham Mahesh, 51, were arrested for alleged roles in the September 19 attack that killed two Assam Rifles personnel.
  • One of the suspects was apprehended in Guwahati with assistance from the city’s Crime Branch, underscoring a wider search beyond Manipur.
  • The arrests follow Wednesday’s capture of alleged prime accused Khomdram Ojit Singh, a bailed-out PLA member who police say admitted involvement, with weapons tied to the ambush recovered based on his inputs.
  • Security forces have separately detained militants from PREPAK and KCP (PWG), arrested an alleged arms smuggler with a 9mm pistol in Imphal West, and seized IED components in Kakching’s Kaibung area.
  • Raids have yielded a large PLA-linked cache in Thoubal including rifles, grenades, ammunition, radios, bulletproof jackets and uniforms, as multi-agency teams continue searches, interrogations, checkpoints and highway escorts, with a brief road blockade reported after earlier PLA arrests.
