Overview
- Former officers Jeffrey Wilson and Lawrence Gacad pleaded guilty on August 7 to federal sex-abuse charges stemming from their exploitation of inmates at the now-closed women’s prison in Dublin, California.
- Wilson admitted to five counts of sexual abuse of a ward and providing false statements after encouraging a prisoner to transfer to a satellite camp for private encounters in 2022.
- Gacad pleaded guilty to one count of abusive sexual contact following evidence he exchanged explicit notes and emails and groped an inmate between February and June 2022.
- Both officers are scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzales Rogers in November.
- Darrell Wayne Smith is the sole remaining defendant, facing a new trial on September 15, and the shuttered facility has been under special-master oversight since its 2024 closure.
