Overview

  • U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the arrests of Laurence Cotton-Powell, 19, and Anthony Taylor, 18, in last week’s sweep tied to the Aug. 3 assault on Edward Coristine.
  • Both men are charged in D.C. Superior Court with attempted unarmed carjacking, robbery, and assault with intent to commit robbery.
  • Pirro said the two are also accused in a separate attack and robbery at a gas station shortly before the assault on Coristine.
  • The new arrests bring the total to four after two 15-year-olds from Maryland earlier pleaded guilty and received probation, a decision President Trump publicly criticized.
  • The August attack was cited by the White House in deploying additional federal agents and National Guard patrols in Washington, and prosecutors say investigators are still seeking other suspects.
