Overview
- A fight outside a Kearns church on Aug. 17 ended with 18-year-old Vilisoni “Soni” Angilau shot and later dying while his twin brother was critically injured.
- The 17-year-old who police say fired the shots was shot during the confrontation, treated at Intermountain Medical Center, and was arrested in the hospital and charged in the case.
- Investigators arrested the suspect’s father, Afuhia Masiu Manatau, and charged him with murder and multiple gun and assault counts for allegedly giving his son the handgun used in the shooting.
- On Aug. 27 police arrested Tevita Siope Tonga Kofe and Heneli Suli Grall on obstruction-of-justice counts after witnesses and video showed them running from the scene and helping the suspected shooter or handling the weapon.
