Two Minors Confess to Rome Minicar Street Attacks

The case has been passed to the juvenile prosecutor to decide charges or precautionary measures.

Overview

  • Investigators identified and denounced a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old who admitted carrying out six street assaults in Rome on October 4–5 using a small black minicar.
  • Police seized the minicar after linking it to the attacks through CCTV, the testimony of a local mechanic who fitted red LEDs and a red serpent sticker, a found cap, social‑media checks and a parental‑control location app.
  • Actor Davide Iacopini suffered severe head injuries during one assault, was operated on twice and remains in intensive care in reserved prognosis at Ospedale San Camillo.
  • The Rome prosecutor opened a file for attempted murder and other injuries but has transmitted the evidence to the Procura presso il Tribunale per i Minorenni, which may seek measures such as house arrest, community placement or placement in a juvenile institute.
  • The suspects have prior theft records and one is reported to be the vehicle owner and son of a Carabiniere, a fact that has heightened local concern about youth behavior, supervision and the safety of low‑power minicars driven by minors.
