Overview

  • The Bata footwear showroom in Chembur reported a level-1 fire at 4:35 a.m. on August 11 that engulfed about 2,000 sq ft on its ground floor and basement before being fully extinguished at 7:50 a.m.
  • At Allfit Garment in Bhandup, a blaze confined to a first-floor loft spanning roughly 3,000 sq ft was reported around 1:38 p.m. and brought under control by 7:50 p.m.
  • Both incidents were classified as minor (level-1) fires by the Mumbai Fire Brigade and prompted support from police, civic ward staff, ambulance services, utility firms and multiple fire units.
  • No injuries were reported in either fire despite damage to electrical installations, retail stock and the wiring of a nearby mobile tower in Bhandup.
  • The latest blazes underscore persistent electrical safety gaps in Mumbai’s commercial buildings and have spurred calls for stricter fire-safety compliance.
