Two Men Robbed at Gunpoint in River North

Police are seeking a white SUV to help determine whether the early-morning attack ties to a recent string of downtown group robberies.

Overview

  • Two men, ages 19 and 23, were robbed at gunpoint around 3:45 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of North Clark Street in the River North neighborhood.
  • A group of five to six suspects displayed two guns and demanded the victims' property; both victims complied and were not injured.
  • After the robbery the suspects fled east on Ontario Street in a white SUV and Chicago police have asked the public for information about that vehicle.
  • Area Three and Belmont detectives are handling the probe, no arrests or offender descriptions have been released, and investigators are asking witnesses to submit tips.
  • Police previously issued an alert in May about a series of downtown robberies that involved stolen phones and possible fraud, but officials have not confirmed a link between that pattern and this June 1 incident.
