Overview
- Emergency services were called to Budleigh Salterton at 10:25am, with HM Coastguard alerted around 10am.
- HM Coastguard, RNLI lifeboats from Exmouth, Teignmouth and Torbay, and search-and-rescue helicopters are combing the area.
- Several swimmers were brought ashore; two were treated at the scene and one was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital as a precaution.
- Police say two men remain unaccounted for, with next of kin for one contacted and efforts under way to reach the other man’s family.
- Officers urged people to stay out of the sea at Budleigh and to forgo Exmouth’s planned dip under a Met Office yellow wind warning.
