Two Men Jailed in Rotherham for Decades-Old Rapes After Operation Stovewood Probe

The CPS secured the sentences after an NCA investigation built on victims’ recorded accounts with corroborating evidence.

Overview

  • Kessur Ajaib, 44, was jailed for eight years and six months for rape, with a concurrent three-year term for indecent assault, giving a total sentence of 8.5 years.
  • Mohammed Makhmood, 43, received a seven-year sentence for raping the same victim in a separate incident, following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.
  • The offences took place between 1999 and 2002 when the girls were aged roughly 13 to 16, with evidence describing grooming involving alcohol and isolation in secluded locations.
  • Co-defendant Sageer Hussain, who was already serving 19 years for a separate case, was given an additional three years in November for raping a different victim.
  • The convictions were brought by the CPS Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit after the NCA’s Operation Stovewood inquiry, which reports 49 convictions totalling more than 1,500 years in custody, and both men must register as sex offenders for life.
