Two Men in Their 20s Die, Five Seriously Injured in Essex Roundabout Crash

Police have bailed two arrested drivers and are appealing for dashcam footage.

Overview

  • Emergency services responded to a two-vehicle collision at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout on the A130 near Wickford shortly after 4:15am on Monday.
  • Two male drivers from Barking, aged 23 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving and have been bailed until 20 November.
  • Essex Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking for witnesses, CCTV or dashcam footage quoting incident 120 of 1 September, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
  • The National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK says nine Indian students were involved and named the two who died as Chaitanya Tarre and Rishi Teja Rapolu.
  • Sections of the A130 and nearby A1245 were closed for hours for collision inquiries, specialist officers are supporting families, and several people remain in hospital with serious injuries.
