Two Men Charged with Murder After Dartford Pickup Crash That Killed Four-Year-Old

Kent Police are appealing for CCTV or dashcam footage in an ongoing probe into the circumstances of the crash.

Overview

  • Patrick Maughan, 53, and Owen Maughan, 27, both of Darenth, have been charged with murder, grievous bodily harm with intent and attempted wounding with intent.
  • The collision between two grey Ford Ranger pickups on New Barn Road at about 9.30 pm on June 1 left four-year-old Peter Maughan dead, his 24-year-old father critically injured and his one-year-old sister with minor injuries.
  • Officers arrested the two men on June 2 and they are due to appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on June 4.
  • Kent Police continue to investigate how the crash unfolded and are urging anyone with mobile phone, CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
  • Friends and family have paid tribute to Peter, known affectionately as Peter Rabbit, describing him as a “golden” boy.
