Two Men Arrested in Germany Over Large-Scale Migrant Smuggling Operation

Suspects allegedly transported over 200 migrants into the EU under harsh conditions, charging each between 4,000-5,000 euros.

  • Two men have been arrested in Germany in connection with a large-scale migrant smuggling operation, believed to have brought over 200 migrants, mostly Syrians, into the European Union.
  • The suspects, a 23-year-old from Berlin and a 40-year-old man, were arrested in Garbsen and Lehrte near Hanover, respectively.
  • The suspects are part of a group of smugglers, mostly Iraqis, who allegedly transported the migrants in extreme heat and unsuitable vehicles without providing rest or food.
  • The smugglers charged each migrant between 4,000-5,000 euros and the route taken went through Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, and ultimately into Germany.
  • In response to the increasing number of migrants, Germany has started carrying out systematic checks on its borders with Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland to prevent unauthorized entry.
