Two Major Bay Area Freeways Closed After Big-Rig Accidents

Two big-rig accidents early Wednesday morning led to the closure of westbound Highway 24 and the transition ramp from Interstate 238 to northbound I-880.
The first accident occurred around 4:55 a.m. on Highway 24, involving an overturned big rig carrying sod, grass, and dirt, which spilled across the lanes.
The second accident happened at approximately 2:20 a.m. on northbound I-238, resulting in a heavy-duty tractor trailer overturning.
Traffic was diverted from Highway 24 onto northbound Highway 13 through Berkeley, causing significant backups extending nine miles to Acalanes Road in Lafayette.
The California Highway Patrol issued Sig Alerts for severe traffic, with no estimated time for reopening the affected lanes.
