Two Light Snow Chances for I-95 as Arctic Blast Targets Early Week

Forecasters agree a sharp Arctic plunge early next week will drive dangerous wind chills across the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, New England.

Overview

  • Saturday’s fast clipper is expected to lay down generally 1–3 inches for interior and higher-elevation areas from Pennsylvania into New England, with rain or sleet mixing near the coast limiting totals.
  • A coastal low late Sunday into early Monday may brush southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and nearby South Coast communities with light accumulating snow, while inland areas see little if any impact.
  • In the Washington region, Saturday brings a brief mix with minimal travel issues, and current guidance favors the best chance for accumulation Sunday across southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore with lower odds along and northwest of I-95.
  • The Midwest and Great Lakes face intermittent light snow through the weekend, with 1–2 inches in spots and occasional reduced visibility, followed by a steep temperature drop already underway around Chicago and Detroit.
  • An Arctic surge Monday into Tuesday will send highs into the teens or lower in parts of the Midwest and 20s in the Northeast, with sub-zero wind chills possible and additional lake-effect or scattered snow showers in some areas.
