Two Killed, Two Hospitalized in Northeast Calgary House Fire

Calgary fire investigators alongside police are treating the blaze as non-suspicious with the cause under review.

Overview

  • Emergency crews responded around 1:15 a.m. to a large fire at a two-storey home on the 100 block of Taralake Way N.E.
  • Firefighters discovered an unconscious nine-year-old girl and a man in his 50s inside the house; both later died of their injuries.
  • An adult and a teenager stranded on a small roof were rescued and remain in serious condition at Foothills Medical Centre and Alberta Children’s Hospital.
  • Two other adults from a basement suite escaped without injury and were assessed on scene but not hospitalized.
  • Calgary Fire Department and police continue probing the blaze’s cause, which is currently treated as non-suspicious.
