Two Killed in Separate Cork Collisions: Man in Ballycotton, Cyclist in City Centre

Investigators are conducting forensic examinations following both fatalities.

Overview

  • A man in his 40s died on the L3633 Church Road in Ballycotton at about 3:30pm after an incident involving a dumper or heavy goods vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The Health and Safety Authority was notified about the Ballycotton death, and a full investigation will be carried out.
  • A woman in her 20s died after a collision with a truck at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road in Cork city at about 6:15pm, with no other injuries reported.
  • Garda Forensic Collision Investigators closed both locations for technical examinations, and the bodies were taken to Cork University Hospital for post-mortem arrangements.
  • Gardaí appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage: 3:00–3:45pm for the Ballycotton incident (contact Midleton Garda Station) and 6:00–6:30pm for the city collision (contact Anglesea Street Garda Station).
