Overview
- Police say a 48-year-old man was beaten with a metal object inside 1851 Phelan Place on Nov. 8 and later died at Saint Barnabas Hospital.
- Officers took a person of interest into custody for questioning in the Phelan Place case, and the 46th Precinct has logged six homicides year-to-date through Nov. 2, down from 25 a year earlier.
- In a separate case on Nov. 9, a 48-year-old man was found stabbed on a stairwell at 341 East 162nd St. in Melrose and was pronounced dead at the scene.
- A 33-year-old was detained for questioning in the Melrose incident, and a 39-year-old man with arm lacerations was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.
- Police have withheld both victims' identities pending family notification, and are seeking tips through NYPD Crime Stoppers as both probes continue.
