Overview

• Deputies and Idaho Springs police staged at Highway 40 and Highway 6 to intercept a Chrysler Town & Country identified in a theft investigation.
• The driver fled, briefly drove the wrong way on I-70 during a construction traffic hold, ran over stop sticks, and continued onto Highway 6 with deflated tires.
• Near Tunnel 6, the minivan crossed into oncoming lanes and collided head-on with a Lexus RX350, which rolled into Clear Creek.
• The Lexus driver was airlifted and later pronounced dead, the Chrysler driver died at the scene, and a 27-year-old passenger in the minivan sustained minor injuries.
